More than 900,000 people move through our bustling city every day and night. Residents, workers and visitors all converge on our roads and footpaths to experience everything this vibrant city has to offer. What do we need to do to ensure everyone can get around safely 24-hours a day?
This Melbourne Conversations event launches the City of Melbourne’s 2019 Open Innovation Challenge. Featuring a panel of expert speakers including Victoria Police Commander, Tim Hanson, and Shebah ride-share CEO and founder, George McEncroe, we will ask the question, “What is your utopian vision of moving through Melbourne’s metropolis of the future safely and securely?” Our speakers will delve into the challenges and propose ways we can create safer public spaces, build confidence around all types of travel and transportation, deal more effectively with city disruption and help everyone feel safe when travelling through the city at all times.
Following the panel discussion we’ll kick off the 2019 Open Innovation Challenge, calling for submissions from innovators, entrepreneurs, businesses, students and the community to address the safety needs and concerns of people who traverse our city.
With a prize pool of $30,000 and major prizes including entry to the MAP Velocity program for early-stage startups and a trip to the Bundung Institute of Technology in Indonesia up for grabs, there is every reason to apply your own or your team’s talents and technologies to make our streets safer for everyone.
Submissions for the Open Innovation Competition will be open from Thursday 7 March to Thursday 18 April 2019. Stay tuned for more information to come via the Open Innovation Challenge website.
