Treasure Ships: Art in the Age of Spices, coming to the ArtGallery of Western Australia in October, presents a wonderful opportunity toaddress the curriculum through engaging with realhistorical objects and artifactsproduced for global markets in the era of the spice trade across the IndianOcean. Think… journeys, explorers, migration,first contacts with Indigenous Australians, Asian powers, cross-culturalcontacts and more!
Join us for a special cross-curricular professional Learning Afternoonfor teachers presented by AGWA, the Department ofEducation (DOE) and the Association ofIndependent Schools of WA (AISWA). The workshop includes an introduction to thethemes and content of the exhibition and a look at the way the exhibition linkswith curriculum learning areas, in particular History, Geography and English. There will also be a hands-on practical activity,transferrable to the classroom, linking Visual Arts making with other LearningAreas of the curriculum including Design and Technologies, History, Geography andEnglish. The activity will be delivered by AGWA’s Educators and a guest artistwho will share exciting mixed media techniques that he has developed and refinedthrough his own practice.
