BLACK SWAN PRIZE FOR PORTRAITURE
WORKSHOP | JANA VODESIL-BARUFFI, 2017 WINNER
WEDNESDAY 22 NOVEMBER 2017 | 10AM – 3PM

Join the 2017 Black Swan Prize for Portraiture winner, Jana Vodesil-Baruffi for this two-part intensive workshop. Jana’s session will include: understanding the importance of composition, drawing and value painting, sketching and working out the composition, and starting on the canvas—drawing and value painting.

Schedule:
10am – 12pm | Part 1 (short slideshow/talk followed by practical session)
12pm – 1pm | Break
1pm – 3pm | Part 2 (practical session)


This is a 2-part workshop
Cost: $30 per person
Some art materials will be provided but participants are welcome to BYO (see materials list below).
Please note: odourless solvent to be used only in the AGWA Education Studio
Places strictly limited to 10 participants – bookings essential to avoid disappointment

Materials list: 1 x canvas (approx 45cm x 60cm), 1 x brown or grey pastel pencil, oils - primary red, yellow, blue and black, Filbert brush size 6 or 8, palette knife to mix the paint, flat palette, odourless solvent.


About the artist:
Jana Vodesil-Baruffi was born in Czech Republic in 1957. She developed a keen interest in art and sport in childhood—these two interests have followed her throughout her life. After five years of study, Vodesil-Baruffi graduated as an interior designer. In 1981 she migrated to Australia, where she immediately immersed herself in art, and focused on gaining skills in copper enameling, china painting, watercolour and fabric printing, receiving tuition in the private studios of various artists and at technical college. She has been a finalist in the Matilda Bay Art Award (1987) and the Shirley Hannan National Portrait Award (2006), and the winner of the City of Melville Art Exhibition pastel category (1988), Bicentennial Art Exhibition in York (1988), City of Canning Art Award oil category (2006) and awarded People’s Choice at the Black Swan Prize for Portraiture (2006). She is a member of the WA Portrait Artists’ group and her work has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions.
